Girls Varsity Volleyball Team

On October 9, 2025, the Girls Varsity Volleyball played a home game against Newcomer Academy, a JCPS school that provides extensive support for students who typically are in their first year of instruction in a U.S. school. During warm-ups and at the beginning of the game, the Wildcats observed their opponent was at a skill level way below their own. It was the first organized volleyball game for most of the Newcomer athletes.

The Wildcats ‘adjusted’ graciously – were patient, did not perform any high skill level tactics, and even cheered on the Newcomer athletes when they were able to make a great play.

Everyone in the gym took notice – it was heartwarming. Before long, the Waggener fans, including the Boys Football team, were cheering on the Newcomer athletes. Seeing the young women on both sides of the net enjoy playing volleyball made the evening great.

This was a demonstration of all the qualities of Wildcat Spirit. These are student athletes in a high school sporting event with plenty of community around them. Instead of attempting to overpower the other team, they took their time returning, no hard hits over the net, encouraged the other team, and had fun. They even had student spectators encouraging the other team. Both referees took notice.

WHSAA proudly recognizes the Girls Varsity Volleyball Team with the WHSAA Wildcat Spirit Award. The team will enjoy a pizza / ice-cream / [ yummy] party of their choosing.

Girls Varsity Soccer Team

On September 18, 2025, the Girls Varsity Soccer team played a home game against Sacred Heart Academy. It was a tough game for the Wildcats – the ‘mercy rule’ kicked in at 12 to 0 and the game was ended early.

Instead of sulking off in bitter defeat, the girls surprised their opponent and decided to use the extra time for what else – a Dance Party!

They got a hold of the PA microphone and invited the victorious Valkyrie Nation over to their bench for a Dance Off.

WHSAA is very proud of these girls for showing grace in defeat and extending a warm Wildcat welcome even to an opponent and in such a fun way – the qualities we are recognizing as Wildcat Spirit !

These girls were also recognized for a Referees Sportsmanship Award.

The team will enjoy a pizza / ice-cream / [ yummy] party of their choosing.
