Two WHS teams have been awarded the new WHSAA Wildcat Spirit Award – Girls Varsity Soccer and Girls Varsity Volleyball.
The WHSAA Board reviewed the nominations at the most recent Board Meeting and were very happy to make these selections.
The Girls Varsity Volleyball team showed incredible Wildcat Spirit at an October match against Newcomer Academy. When it was clear that Newcomer athletes were newcomers even to the sport, the Wildcats pivoted from formidable adversaries to cheerleaders and coaches – while carrying on a competitive game. Witnesses say the whole gym was cheering for the Newcomer athletes! Now that’s Wildcat Spirit!
In September, the Girls Varsity Soccer team played a tough match against neighborhood rival Sacred Heart. The Valkyries got the best of the Wildcats – 12-0 – and the game was called early. With the extra time available and an abundance of Wildcat Spirit, the WHS girls invited their opponent over to their sideline for a Dance Party! This extension of goodwill and community is exactly what the Wildcat Spirit hopes to capture, recognize, and honor.
